Tympany Introduces the OtogramTM: An Automated and Self-Administered Hearing Test Helps Physicians Easily Diagnose Hearing Loss!

Houston, Texas October 6, 2003-- Tympany, Inc., a Houston-area-based company, introduced its newest product, the "OtogramTM", to family physicians at the 2003 American Academy of Family Physicians Scientific Assembly in New Orleans, Louisiana, held October 2-4, 2003. The OtogramTM is the first fully-automated and self-administered comprehensive diagnostic hearing testing system to be developed and sold in the market.

"Tympany was founded to address the current crisis of the nation's growing population of patients suffering from conductive or sensorineural hearing loss. 10% of the population (28 million people) and 35-40% of the over 65 population suffer from hearing loss; however only a small percentage of these individuals are actually diagnosed and treated," said Chris Wasden, Tympany's president and CEO. "The need for management of this chronic condition has never been greater and the OtogramTM helps physicians easily diagnose hearing loss in their patients."

With Tympany's OtogramTM, healthcare professionals can now conduct automated and self-administered diagnostic hearing testing in their offices without the need of a sound booth. These tests include comprehensive audiograms, including pure-tone air and bone conduction, speech reception threshold and speech discrimination tests, all with masking; tympanometry and acoustic reflex. Any staff member can prepare the patient for testing in about 5 minutes and the patient self-administers the diagnostic test through touch-screen operation, following verbal and onscreen instructions. The OtogramTM can conduct tests in six languages (Russian, Mandarin, Korean, Vietnamese, Spanish and English) and Tympany currently is developing additional languages.

"The Journal of the American Medical Association recently published a ‘call to action' to all Primary Care physicians in the United States to increase their diagnostic capabilities with regards to hearing loss," Michael E. Glasscock, III, M.D., F.A.C.S., Tympany's chairman, pointed out. "The OtogramTM will allow these physicians to improve their standard of care and their patients' hearing health."

Tympany designs, develops, markets and sells proprietary, automated diagnostic hearing testing equipment to physicians and hearing health professionals. Tympany's proprietary Otogram automates and allows a patient to self-administer the most important diagnostic hearing tests providing the following benefits: 1) patients prefer the Otogram test over manual testing; 2) the Otogram doubles the productivity of hearing health professionals; 3) the Otogram's telemedicine capabilities allow hearing professionals to expand their practice scope and reach; and 4) the Otogram allows physicians to generate additional practice income.
