FCC Order to Make Cellphones Hearing Aid Compatible Opens Door for New High Performance Antennas; DAMAX Technology Makes Handsets Noise-Free for People Wearing Hearing Aids
LAS VEGAS July, 2003 -- DAMAX International, the developer of revolutionary new cellular phone antenna technology, applauded today's Federal Communications Commission order requiring the cellular telephone industry to make cellphones hearing aid compatible.
"We are very excited that the more than six million Americans who currently wear hearing aids will now be able to enjoy the benefits of digital cellular technology," said David Woodbury, DAMAX VP of Industry Relations and a former top official of the Hearing Industries Association.
"Handsets that use our technology are hearing aid compatible because our antenna redirects nearly 100% of the handset signal power that causes annoying to often unbearable noise in hearing aids, away from the user, thus allowing the hearing aid consumer to hear clearly," Mr. Woodbury added.
"Tests of DAMAX equipped handsets at Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) certified labs show that DAMAX is able to take the redirected power when the networks call for it and add it to the carrier's cell sites. This benefits everyone because it substantially reduces dropped calls and data transmission error rates, and greatly increases battery life giving subscribers more time to use phones," said Bill Luxon, DAMAX CEO.
A Revolution in Antenna Design
DAMAX's technology conserves handset power by virtually eliminating signal loss to the body. For example, recent FCC tests showed DAMAX equipped handsets reduced signal loss to the head up to 97%, virtually eliminating this major, and now unnecessary waste of battery power.
DAMAX antennas will be manufactured inside replaceable back plates and installed on current model handsets with antenna ports, or designed inside new model phones by manufacturers. " We have partnered with major manufacturers that produce millions of electronic components for cellphone makers worldwide to produce the antennas," Mr. Luxon added.
"Cellular phone retailers where consumers can obtain handsets equipped with DAMAX will be announced soon," said George Antoon, vice president of sales for DAMAX. "We're in discussions with a wide range of carriers, distributors and retailers nationwide. For up to date information call your local carrier, and ask when DAMAX equipped handsets will be available in your area," Mr. Antoon added.
DAMAX announced it is kicking off a nationwide educational and marketing campaign to raise awareness among hearing health professionals and hearing aid wearers about the new technology.
"In addition to far better handset performance, the really good news is for the 14 million hearing aid wearers in the U.S. and EU, and millions more worldwide who now will be able to obtain and use the new generation digital handsets noise-free," Mr. Woodbury said.
Mr. Luxon said he believes today's FCC vote will prompt the widespread use of the new technologies.
